A recent study of almost 6,000 biologists in the United States showed that 96% of them agreed that human life begins at conception. Christians go further and believe that every human bears the image of God from the moment of conception (Genesis 1:27). If we believe these things, then there is no conclusion more logical than that abortion is murder—the unjust killing of an innocent human being.
2. We believe that Christ is King.
Matthew 28:18: “And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (ESV)
This is the same King who declared in Exodus 20, “You shall not murder.” Anyone who murders—by abortion or any other means—defies Christ.
3. Based on these two things, we believe that all Christians should fight to abolish abortion.
We are commanded to hold back those stumbling to the slaughter (Proverbs 24:11). We are commanded to do justly (Micah 6:8). We cannot believe that abortion is murder and that Christ’s authority is on earth as well as in heaven without believing that abortion should be abolished—not regulated, not removed bit by bit, but abolished as the murder that it is.
